Whom Does the “Bride” in Revelation 22:17 Refer To?

27 May 2026

When given the testimony about Heavenly Mother, who appears as the bride, Revelation 22:17, alongside the Spirit, our Heavenly Father, to give water of life. Many churches come to insist that the ” bride” is the saints or the church. However, this insistence can not be true because the bride is granting the water of life.

Who Gives the Water of Life?

Revelation 22: 17 ” The Spirit and the bride say, ” Come!” And let the one who hears say, ” Come!” Let the one who is thirsty come: and let the one who wishes take the free gift of the water of life.

In the above verse, it says that the “bride” gives the water of life. If we insist that the “bride” refers to the church or the saints, the saints should have the ability to give water. However, there is no scripture in the Bible that confirms the fact that the saints can give water of life.  This is because the ability to give water of life solely belongs to God.

Various verses in the Bible confirm that the water of life is the gift of God. Only the saviour has the authority to grant the water of life to the people of God, and this is true for every age. Let us go through each verse one by one.

Jeremiah 2:13 ” My people have committed two sins: They have forsaken me the spring of living water, and have dug their cisterns, broken cisterns that cannot hold water.”

In the age of the Father, it was God the Father, Jehovah, who was the saviour. In the above verse, God the Father, Jehovah, referred to Himself as the spring of living water because He was the saviour who could give water of life. Then, in the age of the Son who is the source of eternal life?

John 4: 14 ” but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”

When Jesus Christ was speaking to the Samaritan woman, He taught her that He was the source of the water of life as the Saviour in the age of the Son.  Then, in the age of the Holy Spirit, who gives water of life?

Revelation 22: 17 ” The Spirit and the bride say, ” Come!” And let the one who hears say, ” Come!” Let the one who is thirsty come: and let the one who wishes take the free gift of the water of life.

In the age of the Holy Spirit, the ones who can give water of life, eternal life, are the Spirit and the bride, who are the saviours, God the Father and God the Mother.

The Water of Life Is Given to Us by God

The defining characteristic of the water of life is that it can only be given by God. This is because the water of life grants eternal life to us, sinners. We, sinners, cannot give each other eternal life; that is only the gift from God.

John 4:10 ” Jesus answered her, ” if you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink you would have asked him and he would have given you living water.”

Here, Jesus Christ refers to the living waters, the water of life, as the gift of God.

Revelation 21 : 5-7 ” He who was seated on the throne said, ” I am making everything new!” Then he said, ” Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.” He said to me: “It is done. I am Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To the thirsty I will give water without cost from spring of the water of life. Those who are victorios will inherit all this, and I will be their God and they will be my children.”

The Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, always refer to God. It said that God will give to the thirsty the water of life. It is the saints who will receive water of life from God; we cannot be the ones who give it. When we receive the water of life from our God, we can become the children of God.

The “Bride” in Revelation 22:17 Is Heavenly Mother

We have found the definitive truth that the bride in Revelation 22:17 cannot be the saints. The bride is our Heavenly Mother who gives eternal life. Let us confirm this through the Bible.

Revelation 21 : 9 “One of the seven angels who had the seven bowls full of the seven last plagues came and said to me, “Come, I will show you the bride, the wife of the Lamb.”

The angel spoke to Apostle John and said that he would show him the bride, the wife of the Lamb. What was Apostle John shown?

Revelation 21: 10 ” And he carried me away in the Spirit to a mountain great and high, and showed me the Holy City, Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God.”

Apostle John was shown the Holy City, Jerusalem; therefore, the bride, the wife of the Lamb, is Jerusalem. Who is Jerusalem? What is our relationship with Her?

Galatians 4: 26 ” But the Jerusalem that is above is free, and she is our mother”

Galatians 4: 31 ” Therefore, brothers and sisters, we are not children of the slave woman, but of the free woman.

Speaking to the saints of the early church, Apostle Paul writes that the Jerusalem that is above is our mother, and continues to write in the following verse that we are children of the free woman. Then, we can confirm that the Jerusalem coming down from heaven mentioned in Revelation 21 is our mother. We need to understand that the bride in Revelation 21 and 22 is our Heavenly Mother Jerusalem, who will appear in the last days with our Heavenly Father to give us eternal life, as testified in the Bible.

The Saints Cannot Give Water of Life

When we read the scriptures, no verse in the Bible testifies that the saints can give water of life. We can understand why through the example of Moses.

Numbers 20:10 ” He and Aaron gathered the assembly together in front of the rock and Moses said to them, ” Listen, you rebels, must we bring you water out of this rock?”

This was during the Israelites’ journey in the desert, and they had been grumbling to Moses about having no water. When God commanded Moses to tap the rock to give the Israelites water, he mistakenly uttered the words “Must we bring you water out of this rock?” Because of this sentence, he couldn’t enter the promised land of Canaan.

Deuteronomy 32: 48-52 ” On that same day the Lord told Moses, ” Go up into the Abarim Range to Mount Nebo in Moab, across from Jericho, and view Canaan, the land I am giving to the Israelites as their own possession. There on the mountain that you have climbed you will die and be gathered to your people, just as your brother Aaron died on Mount hor and was gathered to his people. This is becasue both of you broke faith with me in the presence of the Israelites at the water of Meribah Kadesh in the Desert of Zin and because you did not uphold my holiness among the Israelites. Therefore, you will see the land only from a distance; you will not enter the land I am giving to the people of Israel.”

As seen in Deuteronomy 32: 48-52 Moses could not enter the land of Canaan but only saw it from a distance before he died. Moses was a great prophet of God who spoke with God directly;  he led the Israelites to Canaan, but he could not enter because he made the mistake of saying he could give physical water. Then what about us, if we say we the saints, can give water of life? What will be our fate?

We must not have the fixed idea that the saints can give eternal life, as this mistaken thought can lead us away from salvation.  We should hold a firm faith in God the Mother, who appears as the bride alongside God the Father, to give us the saints’ the water of life; so we, too, can receive the blessed gift of God, the water of life.
