Two Meanings of the Wife of Christ

Those Who Deny the Existence of God the Mother

When some people hear the testimony about God the Mother, they immediately deny Her existence. They say God the Mother cannot exist because one word has one meaning in the Bible.  By saying this, though the Bible testifies clearly about the female image of God, the bride, our Mother (Gen 1:26-27, Rev 22:17, Rev 21:9-10, and Gal 4:26) they insist that the Bride, the wife of the Lamb, has one meaning and only refers to the saints.

According to the book of 2 Peter, they are distorting the Bible.

2 Peter 3:16 He writes the same way in all his letters, speaking in them of these matters. His letters contain some things that are hard to understand, which ignorant and unstable people distort, as they do the other Scriptures, to their own destruction.

As the book of 2 Peter states, those who distort the Bible by making their own interpretations will face destruction. When reading the Bible, it is important to pay attention to the context. Let us look at an example using the word “Lamb.”

Two Meanings of the Word Lamb

John 21:15 When they had finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon son of John, do you love me more than these?” “Yes, Lord,” he said, “you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Feed my lambs.”

After having a meal with His disciples, Jesus Christ asked Simon Peter to feed His “lambs.” Since Jesus Christ spoke of them as “my lambs” it is clear that the lambs here refers to the saints. Does the lamb in the following verse also refer to the saints?

John 1:29 The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!

In the above verse, whom does the “lamb” refer to? Does it indicate the saints, like in the verse John 21:15? What is the lamb here doing? The lamb in John 1:29 takes away the sins of the world; however, the lamb in John 21:15 is fed with the words of God. Therefore, the lamb in John 1:29 indicates the Savior God Jesus Christ, who removes all the sins of mankind, while the lambs in John 21:15 are the saints who are saved by receiving the words of Christ.

This shows that one word can have more than one meaning depending on the context. It is the same with the wife of Christ.

Two Meanings of the Wife of Christ

Ephesians 5:22-25 Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything. Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her

The book of Ephesians 5 likens Christ to a husband, and it likens the church which is the saints, to the wife of Christ. The same teaching is given in the book of 2 Corinthians.

2 Corinthians 11:2 I am jealous for you with a godly jealousy. I promised you to one husband, to Christ, so that I might present you as a pure virgin to him.

Once again in the book of 2 Corinthians, Christ is described as a husband, and the saints are described as the wife of Christ. There is no denying that in both the book of Ephesians and the book of Corinthians, the wife of Christ indicates the saints. However, does this mean that the wife of Christ in the book of Revelation also refers to the saints? Let us find the answer.

Revelation 21:9-10 One of the seven angels who had the seven bowls full of the seven last plagues came and said to me, “Come, I will show you the bride, the wife of the Lamb.” And he carried me away in the Spirit to a mountain great and high, and showed me the Holy City, Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God.

In the above verse, the angel showed the Apostle John the bride who is the wife of the Lamb. Does the wife of the Lamb here indicate the saints? No. In Revelation 22:17, the wife of the Lamb is called the bride , and she gives water of life.

Revelation 22:17 The Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” And let the one who hears say, “Come!” Let the one who is thirsty come; and let the one who wishes take the free gift of the water of life.

The book of Revelation gives the testimony that the Spirit and the bride are calling people to receive the water of life. What is the water of life? According to John 4:14, the water of life is Eternal Life. And only who can give Eternal Life? According to John 4:10, Eternal Life which is the water of life, is a gift that only God can give.

Then, who are the Spirit and the bride who give the water of life, eternal life? They are God. The Spirit is God the Father according to the Trinity, and who is the bride? Does the bride that is the wife of the Lamb in Revelation 22:17 also indicate the church the saints? Can the saints give eternal life? Never. This shows the wife of the Lamb here has a different meaning. The wife of Christ here refers to God, who gives the water of life.

The Wife of Christ Is Called Jerusalem From Heaven and Our Mother

In the book of Revelation 21:10, this bride, the wife of the Lamb, was called Jerusalem from Heaven. However, is there any verse in the Bible that says that the saints are called Jerusalem? No. Whom does the bride, the wife of the Lamb who is called the Jerusalem from Heaven, refer to?

Galatians 4:26 But the Jerusalem that is above is free, and she is our mother.

In the book of Galatians, it speaks about the Jerusalem that is above. Where does “above” refer to? It refers to Heaven. Therefore, it is talking about Jerusalem from Heaven. Who is Jerusalem from Heaven according to Revelation 21:9-10? It refers to the bride. And who is Jerusalem from Heaven in Galatians 4:26? She is our Mother. This means that the bride, the wife of the Lamb in the book of Revelations indicates our Mother, that is God the Mother, who gives the water of life.

Nowhere in the Bible does it state that the saints are called “our mother.” All this shows that just like the word lamb has two meanings: Jesus Christ in (Jn 1:29)  and the saints in (Jn 21:15) based on the context, so also the wife of Christ has two meanings: God the Mother in (Rev 21:9-10, Rev 22:17, Gal 4:26) and the saints in (Eph 5:22-25, 2 Cor 11:2.) Therefore, to receive the living water eternal life from God the Mother, we must understand that one word can have more than one meaning in the Bible and accept God the Mother the wife of Christ as our Savior to receive Eternal Life from Her.
