The Mystery of the Fig Tree and the Second Coming Christ
6 May 2026
Christians around the world are eagerly waiting for the single most important moment of their lives of faith – the day when Jesus comes again to the earth as He promised at His first coming. The Church of God firmly believes Christ Ahnsahnghong is the Second Coming of Jesus, who has come according to the prophecies of the Bible.
Then, when is Jesus prophesied to come a Second time? And are there any biblical teachings that can help us understand more about when He comes again? Of course, the scriptures do not give an exact date, however there is a definitive and unmistakable sign.
One by one, let us take time to examine the teachings about Christ who comes to this earth a Second time for the salvation of mankind through the parable of the Fig Tree.
The Parable of the Fig Tree
To reveal profound truths hidden since the creation of the world, Jesus often spoke in parables (Matt 13:34-35). While sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples went to Jesus and asked the following:
Matthew 24:3 As Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him privately. “Tell us,” they said, “when will this happen, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?
Jesus could have answered this question in any way; however, He chose to teach the disciples, and us, in whom the prophecy would find its fulfilment, about His coming through the parable of the Fig Tree.
Matthew 24:32-33 “Now learn this lesson from the fig tree: As soon as its twigs get tender and its leaves come out, you know that summer is near. Even so, when you see all these things, you know that it is near, right at the door.
Since it is written “as soon as its twigs get tender and its leaves come out, you know that it is near, right at the door”, it is certain that the fig tree is related to Jesus’ Second Coming. Once we know what the Fig Tree represents in the Bible, we can come to know and prepare for Christ, who comes to this earth in the last days.
Then, what does the Fig Tree represent?
The Fig Tree Represents Israel
Let us see some biblical verses that refer to the nation of Israel as the Fig Tree.
Jeremiah 24:5 This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: ‘Like these good figs, I regard as good the exiles from Judah, whom I sent away from this place to the land of the Babylonians.
Luke 13:6 – 7 Then he told this parable: “A man had a fig tree growing in his vineyard, and he went to look for fruit on it but did not find any. So he said to the man who took care of the vineyard, ‘For three years now I’ve been coming to look for fruit on this fig tree and haven’t found any. Cut it down! Why should it use up the soil?
Jesus, looking for figs in the vineyard means He preached the gospel in Israel for three years. Not finding fruit on the fig tree means no one accepted the gospel of the new covenant He preached.
The Fall of Israel
As a result of rejecting the gospel of the new covenant, Jesus cursed Israel and prophesied of its destruction that would take place in AD 70.
Luke 21:20-22 “When you see Jerusalem being surrounded by armies, you will know that its desolation is near. Then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains, let those in the city get out, and let those in the country not enter the city. For this is the time of punishment in fulfillment of all that has been written.
“In fulfilment of all that has been written” refers to the Israelite’s punishment for rejecting God, who came in the flesh to save mankind.
The Restoration of Israel
Will the cursed fig tree remain destroyed forever?
Matthew 24:32-33 “Now learn this lesson from the fig tree: As soon as its twigs get tender and its leaves come out, you know that summer is near. Even so, when you see all these things, you know that it is near, right at the door.
Just as Jesus prophesied about the destruction of Israel, He also prophesied about its restoration. “As soon as its twigs get tender and its leaves come out, you know that it is near, right at the door.” This means when Israel’s sovereignty is restored after wandering as a stateless nation for over 1900 years, we must interpret this as a sure sign that Christ has come a second time.
On May 4th, 1948, Prime Minister Ben Gurion proclaimed Israel’s restoration and independence. The fig tree, which had withered and fallen away, was finally alive again.
This is the sure sign that confirmed Christ had come again with a new name, Ahnsahnghong. The members of the Church of God have all received the Second Coming Christ, who came with the Passover, the New Covenant that allows us to receive Eternal Life through the flesh and blood of Christ.
Christ Ahnsahnghong was born in 1918. He received baptism in 1948 at the age of 30, fulfilling the prophecy of the fig tree and coming as King David precisely. The reason Christ must come a second time is to restore the new covenant, which had been trampled on by satan during the dark ages.
He restored the seven feasts of God (Lev 23) and rebuilt Zion, the Church established by Jesus at His first coming (Heb 12:22-24).
Let us press on to know God who comes in the flesh and receive Him so we may increase our hope to enter the Kingdom of Heaven.
