Can God Really Come as a Man?
29 April 2026
Christianity is among the largest religions in the world by number of adherents; however, what makes Christendom unique among religious systems is the belief that God can and has come as a man.
Many people around the world, both religious and non-religious, maintain that it is difficult to believe that God could come as a man, and question how Christians can believe that a man is God.
The World Mission Society Church of God believes that Christ Ahnsahnghong came in the flesh as the Second Coming Christ. He was born in South Korea and fulfilled all the prophecies.
Then why does the Church of God believe God came as a man? The Bible provides numerous pieces of evidence and prophecies concerning God coming to the earth in the flesh for the salvation of mankind.
The Core of Christianity Is to Believe in God Who Came as a Man
Man cannot become God; however, it is not difficult for God to come as a man. If we believe that God created the heavens and the earth in six days by His word, we should also recognise that nothing is impossible for Him.
He parted the Red Sea so the Israelites could cross on dry ground and even caused the sun and moon to stand still for nearly a full day so Joshua and the Israelites could defeat the Amorites in battle.
When we consider these miraculous acts, can we really say that it would be impossible for God to come as a man? We need to think about this matter deeply.
God Appears as a Passerby
There are several occasions in the Bible in which Almighty God appears as a passerby. Let us examine some of these examples one by one.
Genesis 18: 1-2 The Lord appeared to Abraham near the great trees of Mamre while he was sitting at the entrance to his tent in the heat of the day. Abraham looked up and saw three men standing nearby. When he saw them, he hurried from the entrance of his tent to meet them and bowed low to the ground.
God appeared to Abraham as he was sitting near the great trees of Mamre in the heat of the day, accompanied by two other men. Abraham hurried to prepare a meal for them.
Genesis 18:5-8 Let me get you something to eat, so you can be refreshed and then go on your way—now that you have come to your servant.” “Very well,” they answered, “do as you say.” So Abraham hurried into the tent to Sarah. “Quick,” he said, “get three seahs of the finest flour and knead it and bake some bread.” Then he ran to the herd and selected a choice, tender calf and gave it to a servant, who hurried to prepare it. He then brought some curds and milk and the calf that had been prepared, and set these before them. While they ate, he stood near them under a tree.
The two men among the three were angels who later left for Sodom while the LORD God remained behind with Abraham.
Genesis 18:22 The men turned away and went toward Sodom, but Abraham remained standing before the LORD.
God not only appeared to Abraham in the flesh—as a man with eyes, ears, hands, a nose, and a mouth—but also appeared to Jacob in the same manner.
Genesis 32:23-24 After he had sent them across the stream, he sent over all his possessions. So Jacob was left alone, and a man wrestled with him till daybreak.
The Bible says Jacob wrestled with a man till daybreak, then who is this man?
Genesis 32:28, 30 Then the man said, “Your name will no longer be Jacob, but Israel because you have struggled with God and with humans and have overcome.” So Jacob called the place Peniel, saying, “It is because I saw God face to face, and yet my life was spared.”
Jacob wrestled with God, who appeared as a passerby, and the Bible emphasises that Jacob saw God face to face. It is therefore undeniable that God can take the form of a man and dwell on this earth as one of us.
The Prophecies About God Who Comes to This Earth in the Flesh
One of the fundamental reasons Christians believe in God who comes as a man is the biblical prophecies that foretell God being born as a man.
Isaiah 9:6 For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
In what form did the Mighty God, the Everlasting Father, come? He was born as a child—that is, as a man. Who, then, fulfilled this prophecy? Christianity is the belief in Jesus, who fulfilled this prophecy as God who came in the flesh.
Isaiah 7:14 Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel.
The footnote in the Bible highlights that the name Immanuel means “God is with us.” The prophet Isaiah wrote this and many other prophecies some 700 years before the birth of Jesus.
The Scriptures further explain Jesus’ titles, which include “Mighty God.” Jesus fulfilled the prophecies of God who would be born of the Virgin Mary.
However, contemporary religious leaders did not recognise Jesus and instead crucified Him, despite His clear fulfillment of biblical prophecy. They failed to recognize Him because they regarded the Bible merely as words in a book and did not believe the prophecies could be realised in reality.
Although they witnessed the prophecies being fulfilled one by one, they still denied Him, holding only to their fixed idea that Almighty God could never take the form of a man.
John 10:30-33 I and the Father are one.” Again his Jewish opponents picked up stones to stone him, but Jesus said to them, “I have shown you many good works from the Father. For which of these do you stone me?” “We are not stoning you for any good work,” they replied, “but for blasphemy, because you, a mere man, claim to be God.”
Even the Apostle Paul persecuted the followers of Jesus before his conversion to Christianity, when he realised that Jesus truly was the Messiah foretold in prophecy. After this realisation, he urged everyone not to focus on Christ’s humanity but to realise Him in light of prophecy.
2 Corinthians 5:16 So from now on we regard no one from a worldly point of view. Though we once regarded Christ in this way, we do so no longer.
The Past Serves as a Lesson for Us
Romans 15:4 For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide we might have hope.
The Jews and common believers could not recognise Christ due to their fixed notion that God cannot come as a man, ultimately committing the sin of rejecting Him and even carrying out the greater transgression of crucifying Him.
Must we repeat the same mistake? Christ has appeared again in the last days under the new name Ahnsahnghong. He has quietly fulfilled all the prophecies of the Bible and is freely giving the gift of eternal life through the New Covenant Passover.
Let us press on to know God who comes in the flesh and abandon our fixed ideas, so that we may no longer focus on His humanity but only on His divinity.
