The Female Image of God: A Biblical Perspective

16 September 2025

It is common for most people to think about God only in the male image. However, the very same Bible that teaches about the male image of God also teaches us about the female image of God. The World Mission Society Church of God is the only church that believes in both God the Father and God the Mother.

Let us take some time to explore the teachings of the Bible that reveal the existence of our Heavenly Mother.

The Female Image of God in the Book of Genesis

The Bible is a book that teaches us about the existence of God. In Hosea 6:3, we are urged to press on to know Him.

Throughout all ages, we have known God to only be of the male image, referred to as God the Father (Matt 6:9). However, from the book of Genesis right through to Revelation, the Bible clearly testifies that God is both our spiritual Father and Mother.

Genesis 1:26 Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness…”

Reading the verse in Genesis, we can see God the Creator speaking in plural form and not singular form. If God was only one, He should have said “Let me make man in my image,” or “Let there be man.” God clearly said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness.”

Then, who is the “Us” in the above verse? To understand this, we need to take a closer look at mankind who are the direct image of God.

Genesis 1:27 So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.

In whose image was mankind created in? And how many images came from the image of God? Since male and female were created in the image of God, which are two images, we can clearly see that there is not only the male image of God, but there is also a female image of God.

Who Is the Bride in the Book of Revelation?

Much like many books in the Bible, the book of Revelation contains prophecies which are, for the most part, to be fulfilled in the age we are living in, right before the saints enter the kingdom of heaven.

The apostle John testifies about the Bride in Revelation. Then, who is the Bride? To understand this, we first need to understand what the Bride is giving.

Revelation 22:17 The Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” And let the one who hears say, “Come!” Let the one who is thirsty come; and let the one who wishes take the free gift of the water of life.

The above verse mentions the Spirit and the Bride calling all mankind to give them the water of life. The Spirit or the Holy Spirit is God the Father (Matt 6:9).

Then, who is the Bride? To understand who the Bride is, we first must understand what the water of life is and who has the authority to give the water of life.

Only God Has the Authority to Give Us the Water of Life

In every age, the Bible is consistent in teaching us that only God has the authority to give the water of life, which is eternal life.

Although God sends his prophets to teach people about the law of God and lead them to salvation, there is no scripture that testifies that prophets can give the water of life.

Jeremiah 2:13 My people have committed two sins: They have forsaken me, the spring of living water, and have dug their own cisterns, broken cisterns that cannot hold water.

Living water here refers to the water of life, which is eternal life. In the Old Testament, God the Father Jehovah was the source of the living water, that is the water of life.

This means salvation was given under no other name except Jehovah in those days (Joel 2:32). There were many prophets in the age of the Father such as Moses, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Daniel and many more. Although they were given many special abilities such as parting the red sea or escaping the fire heated seven times hotter, there is one thing they could not do, which was to give salvation, the water of life.

John 4:10,14 Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water… but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”

The Samaritan woman asked Jesus for physical water, and in response, Jesus said that He had the authority to give living water which wells up to eternal life (salvation). Consistent with the teachings of the Bible, we can see that in the New Testament times, in the age of the Son, Jesus (God in the flesh) was the only One who had authority to give the water of life.

Although Jesus allowed His disciples and many saints numerous special abilities such as speaking different tongues, healing, performing miracles and visions of prophecy, there was one thing they too could not give, that is salvation, the water of life. In the age we are living in, the age of the Holy Spirit, who is the source of the water of life, meaning who has the authority to give us Salvation? Only God has the power to give eternal life.

Revelation 22:17 says the Spirit and the Bride are calling to give all mankind the water of life. Then, who is the Bride who has the authority to give what only God can give?

The Bride in Revelation Is God the Mother

Let us confirm in the Bible that the Bride in Revelation indeed is God the Mother.

Revelation 19:7 Let us rejoice and be glad and give him glory! For the wedding of the Lamb has come, and his bride has made herself ready.

The Lamb here refers to Jesus Christ, our Heavenly Father (John 1:29). The above verse says Jesus’ Bride has made Herself ready for the wedding banquet. Then, who is the Bride, the Wife of the Lamb?

Revelation 21:9 One of the seven angels who had the seven bowls full of the seven last plagues came and said to me, “Come, I will show you the bride, the wife of the Lamb. And he carried me away in the Spirit to a mountain great and high, and showed me the Holy City, Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God.

The angel said to the Apostle John, “I will show you the Bride, the wife of the Lamb”, and what did the angel show John? He showed him the Holy City Jerusalem coming down out of heaven from God. This does not refer to the earthly Jerusalem but the heavenly one.

Then, can we interpret this literally? If so, then the Lamb too must be taken literally. Since the Lamb contains a spiritual meaning, referring to Jesus Christ our Heavenly Father, then the Heavenly Jerusalem must have a spiritual meaning as well.

Whom does the Heavenly Jerusalem refer to?

Galatians 4:26 But the Jerusalem that is above is free, and she is our mother.

The Heavenly Jerusalem in Revelation refers to our Heavenly Mother. In the kingdom of heaven, we do not only have our Father but also our Mother. This is why the book of Revelation 22 says the Spirit and the Bride say come. This indicates that our Father and Mother will appear in the last days right before we enter heaven to give us salvation, that is the water of life.

Then, who will make known the truth about our Heavenly Mother?

Isaiah 62:6-7 I have posted watchmen on your walls, Jerusalem; they will never be silent day or night. You who call on the LORD, give yourselves no rest, and give him no rest till he establishes Jerusalem and makes her the praise of the earth.

The prophet Isaiah testifies that it is the LORD who will establish, that is, make known, Jerusalem, our Heavenly Mother. The LORD here refers to our Heavenly Father. Two thousand years ago, John the Baptist was prophesied to appear first to prepare the way for Jesus Christ (Isa 40:3, Mal 4:5). It is the same in this age. Our Father is prophesied to appear in the flesh a second time to prepare the way for our Heavenly Mother.

To find the Bride, our Heavenly Mother, in the last days means to find the Second Coming Christ who came in the flesh to make known the truth about God the Mother. Come to the Church of God to study about the Second Coming Christ Ahnsahnghong and about God the Mother and receive the blessing of the water of life.
