Passover: The True Biblical Teaching

The Passover is an essential commandment that the people of God who want to enter the Kingdom must keep. Just as a doctor or lawyer can’t practice without receiving the necessary qualifications, we too can never enter the Kingdom of Heaven without our spiritual qualification which can only be received by celebrating the Passover.

Death From a Lack of Knowledge

In 2022, it was recorded there are roughly 2.4 billion people who practice some form of Christianity. Despite such a large following, the Bible teaches that not everyone who believes in God will enter the kingdom of heaven (Matt 7:21).

Then why is the path to destruction wide and the path to life narrow? The Bible teaches as follows:

Hosea 4:6 …. my people are destroyed from lack of knowledge…. because you have ignored the law of your God, I also will ignore your children.

Why are the people of God destroyed? What have they rejected? The people of God are destroyed from a lack of knowledge of how important the law of God is to their salvation, especially in the age we are living in.

Then, what is the law that allows us to have eternal life in this last age? It is the Passover, the law of life.

We Must Keep the Law of Life in Each Age

Let us find out who commanded us to keep the Passover in the Old Testament.

Exodus 12:10-14 … Eat it in haste; it is the Lord’s Passover… The blood will be a sign for you on the houses where you are, and when I see the blood, I will pass over you… for the generations to come you shall celebrate it as a festival to the Lord—a lasting ordinance.

God Jehovah commanded us to keep the Passover in the Old Testament. When the Israelites kept the Passover according to God’s commandment, they were blessed and freed from Egyptian slavery.

Many people think that the Passover was only established for the natural Israelites, however we can clearly see through the words “a lasting ordinance” the Passover must be kept in each age.

Who commanded us to keep the law of life in the New Testament?

Matthew 26:17-19 … “Where do you want us to make preparations for you to eat the Passover?” … So, the disciples did as Jesus had directed them and prepared the Passover.

It is Jesus, who is in very nature God, who commanded us to keep the Passover in the New Testament. Just as the Israelites were rescued from Egyptian slavery when they kept the commands of God, we are set free from sin and death and can enter the Kingdom of Heaven when we keep the law of life.

Blessings Through Obedience

From a shallow perspective, it is easy to view the commands of God as arbitrary and autocratic, however every command of God contains the love and sacrifice of our Creator who wants us to escape the agony of death in hell and enter Heaven.

John 6:53-54 … unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life…

Jesus says only those who eat his flesh and drink His blood have life. Many Christians persist that we need to only believe in Jesus to be saved, and they insist that they’re covered by the blood of Jesus. If this were true, Jesus wouldn’t have emphasised using the words “unless you eat my flesh and blood and drink my blood”.

This clearly shows that we must actively participate in His flesh and blood rather than arbitrarily believe in it.

Luke 22:19-20 … And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body… In the same way, after the supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you.”

The bread of the Passover ceremony is Jesus’ body, and the wine represents His blood. This is the only way for us to receive eternal life from our Saviour.

Many people sceptically question whether they will truly be saved if they celebrate the Passover, thinking it’s just bread and wine; we must understand the power contained in God’s words. It is not the bread and wine that saves but rather Jesus’ words that says we will enter the Kingdom of Heaven when we celebrate the Passover.

If we believe in God as our Creator and Saviour, then we will do exactly as He has commanded.

Entering the Heavenly Canaan

God rescued the Israelites from Egypt and led them into the desert so He could deliver them into the land of Canaan flowing with milk and honey. He gave them His laws and regulations so that everything could go well with them (Deut 8:1).

The land of Canaan prophetically represents the Kingdom of Heaven, if we desire to enter the glorious Kingdom of Heaven, we must absolutely follow the commands of God until the very end (Rev 21:1,4).

What about the Israelites who didn’t obey the words of God, could they enter Canaan? Through their example, we can see that those with the mindset that does not follow God’s commands wholeheartedly can never enter the heavenly Canaan.

Matthew 7:21 Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.

In any age, the Passover is at the centre whenever God’s work of redemption is accomplished, this means that only when God’s people obey His commands can they realise the blessings contained in them.

Faith is absolutely essential for salvation, however unless we do the will of God, to keep His commands, we can never realise the goal of our faith, the salvation of our souls.

The Passover is the absolute will of God, let us make every effort to obey God’s commands so we can reap eternal life and reign forever and ever in the multidimensional world where there is no more pain, sorrow or death.
